We Need You!

The New Providence High School PTSA sponsors many programs annually, helping to make NPHS a special place for our students, families and the entire school community. None of these programs would exist without the help of ALL the parents at our school.  Date or timing is listed, but some committees require planning / hold events throughout the school year.

Art Committee -  We are excited to work closely with the Art Department and grow the Art Committee for the 2021-22 school year and going forward.  This will be a year round committee - with at least three (3) events during the school year:

  1. Fall into Art (Fall) - Work with the Art Department and the Art National Honor Society to create an evening, community-wide art class(es) taught by, and facilitated by, the amazingly talented NPHS students.

  2. YAM (Youth Art Month) in March - coordinate with local, downtown businesses to feature NP students’ artwork in New Providence businesses during the month of March.

  3. Art Festival (May)Help transform our building - including the Media Center, cafeteria and hallways - into a fine arts museum!

Audit Committee - (summer/early fall)  This committee reviews the previous year's PTSA books and records.  It is generally a few hours worth of work.  If you have any interest in joining the PTSA Board in the Treasurer's role, this would be a good way to understand the position and what it entails.

Student Appreciation - (ongoing) This committee continually seeks to find opportunities to make the Students feel appreciated and to recognize all their hard work, such as Grab and Go snacks during mid-terms and finals.  Committee members are needed to conceptualize and execute new ideas.

Staff Appreciation - (week in May)  During National Teacher Appreciation Week, the PTSA provides teachers and staff with lunch, snacks and/or treats each day. Bakers are requested school wide, and lunches are donated, so volunteers needed to help organize and distribute food on a particular day.

Staff Appreciation Pop-Ups - (ongoing)  Based on the huge success in the 2020-2021 school year, the PTSA will host several pop-up appreciation days for our teachers and staff.  Information will be communicated via emails and social media.

Tricky Tray/Fashion Show - (ongoing - event in April)  The Tricky Tray / Fashion Show is the PTSA's signature event and our biggest fundraiser!  As such, it requires the most volunteers.  Luckily, there are many subcommittees to work on - from Publicity, Hospitality, Basket Donations, Basket Wrapping, Modeling Agents, Dresses/Tuxedos, Stage Design/Decorations and Ticket Sales.  This event involves teachers, students and parents.  Teachers emcee the event, while Seniors take to the catwalk, Juniors usher guests to their seats and underclassmen help with refreshments, students in the Music Program provide entertainment throughout the evening, and marketing for the event comes from the HS Graphic design classes and the Digital Media classes.  It's a great evening and you'll want to be a part of it!  Be on the lookout for the organizational meeting in October!

Senior Class Committee - This committee works to enhance the senior year for students, is responsible for fundraising to offset the costs of graduation year, most significantly Project Graduation, and runs several other events.  This Committee is typically chaired by a liaison who is a member of the Executive Board.  Typically beings work during the summer.  Events may change due to the nature of the school year (e.g. Covid) and the senior class; annual events listed below:

  • Scavenger Hunt - (spring) A four day event consisting of clues within the borough of New Providence.  Prizes are awarded.

  • Graduation Reception - (Graduation Evening)  Light refreshments are provided to parents, students, staff and guests at Graduation.  Run by the PTSA Board Junior parents.

  • Senior Class Communications - This committee is responsible for working with the overall PTSA Social Media Chairperson to highlight events and fundraisers that benefit the Senior Class.  A Monthly/Periodic Newsletter is sent to all Senior Families.

  • Project Graduation - (ongoing) On the evening of Graduation, Seniors are invited to attend Project Graduation - a fun, safe party that runs approximately until 6:00am.  Many volunteers are needed to make this annual event a success.  Committee chairs and members responsibilities' include event planning, entertainment, refreshments, publicity, solicitation of sponsors and staffing for the entire evening.

Social Media - (ongoing)  This Committee Chair is responsible for posting PTSA news and events on social media, providing information for the NPHS Friday Folder, and being the liaison for the Instagram account.

Trex Plastic Recycling - (ongoing)  Conceptualized and implemented in November 2018, this program brought together all the schools in the district, NP DPW, and NP Recreation.  As with challenging times, this committee continues to pivot to keep plastics out of the landfills.  Currently, drop offs are scheduled for an average of four times per year at NPHS.  CLEAN plastic bags and films are deposited, weighed, then dropped off at authorized drop off site(s).  Volunteers are needed for these one day events!  As of June 2021,  over 3,200 pounds of plastics were recycled and kept from garbage landfills
